Troy Pig Out 2015

Now in its eighth year, the annual Troy Pig Out challenges barbeque masters from across the Northeast to duke it out for the top prize in the categories of: Best Pulled Pork, Best BBQ Chicken, Best Pork Rib, Best Beef Brisket, Grand Champion, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que People's Choice Pork Rib contest, Mayor’s Choice, and more.

The Troy Pig Out is an official Empire State competition sanctioned by New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo, citing New York pride in its place as the site of events that highlight the state and its tradition of excellence in offering unique foods and specialty dishes often based upon tried and true recipes that have endured through the generations.

This year’s Troy Pig Out will see several refinements to rules and regulations for the general competition, as well as event schedule and programming.

New in 2015!

  • Take Home the Pig  Grand Champion across all three meat categories is awarded prize money, a 2015 Troy Pig Out trophy, and their business branding on the label for the Troy Pig Out Championship Hickory Barbeque Sauce and Brown Sugar Bourbon Rub for the following year.
  • Offsite Cooking Allowed  For the first time ever, local business owners can compete and vend at the Troy Pig Out without having to prepare their food onsite. This change throws the doors wide open to greater Capital Region culinary champions in their own right, inviting a diverse selection of delicious themed menu options. The sky’s the limit for a pig to fly!
  • Favorites-Focused Competition  Categories for judging will focus on crowd favorites – Pork Rib, Pulled Pork and Chicken – for their ease of preparation and accessibility to a wider audience.
  • One day, endless food and fun  2015’s Troy Pig Out will scale back from two days to a single day festival, packed with lip-smacking BBQ and family-friendly entertainment like live music, American classic pie and hot dog eating contests, children’s games and performances, craft vendors, and so much more.

Compete to Win in 5 Categories

Exciting news! This year’s People’s Choice Competition will be open to both food vendors and competitors. Ribs will be provided by the Downtown Troy BID. A minimum of 10 racks of ribs must be prepared. Tickets will be sold at the ticket desk; one ticket equals one rib. Competitors will be reimbursed fifty cents per ticket returned to the Downtown Troy BID. Everybody wins!

Tickets go on sale to the public at 3:00pm and you can start sampling from competitors at 5:00pm. For every five rib tickets you buy, you receive an official Dinosaur Bar-B-Que People's Choice ballot. A maximum of 20 tickets will be sold to each patron.

After you have sampled your fill of delicious ribs, drop your completed ballot back at the Downtown Troy BID ticket booth to register your vote!


$3,700.00 in cash prizes and trophies will be awarded for 1st and 2nd Place in each meat category, Grand Champion, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que People's Choice, Mayor's Choice. The Grand Champion across all three meat categories wins their business branding on the label for the Troy Pig Out Championship Hickory Barbeque Sauce and Brown Sugar Bourbon Rub for the following year.  And don't forget the bragging rights!
